West Side Montessori opens new building

West Side Montessori held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new building on its Toledo campus on Sunday, Sept. 16. Construction began on the $4-million expansion to the Bancroft campus, between McCord and Centennial roads, in Fall, 2011. The new building has five classrooms for the Little House program (ages 13-40 months); five classrooms for the Children’s House program (ages 3 through kindergarten); and two of the Lower Elementary classrooms (grades 1-3). Also located in the new facility are the library, media center, and the art and music classrooms. Two key features of the 28,000-square-foot, purpose-designed building are observation windows for each classroom and outdoor work spaces with porches and patios surrounded by 37 acres of woods and meadows. The consolidated campus brings together students from 13 months through eighth grade. West Side Montessori was founded by Fisher in 1975. Classes were originally held at a church in Sylvania before moving to its former location at 2105 N. McCord in 1980.
