Ousted by a planned CVS, businesses try to stay in Sylvania area

Owners of businesses in the Timberstone Business Plaza on Sylvania Avenue and King Road are looking to relocate in the Sylvania area.

The businesses need to move because the building will be torn down and replaced with a a CVS Pharmacy next year, if governmental approvals are received. Affected is just the building on the northwest corner of the intersection, not the two similar buildings to the north on King Road.

George Cordray and his wife Danita sold custom blinds and window treatments at the plaza for 13 years. They recently moved the Budget Blinds shop and showroom to a 2,400-square-foot space in SouthBriar Shopping Center on Main Street, just south of Convent Boulevard in Sylvania.

Mr. Cordray said he is “not upset” with the forced relocation, terming it a “wonderful move.” The move took place this month.

“This is a nicer location for us," he said of the new space. "We have more room for our design center. We were bulging at the seams at the other location.”

Dave Sikorski, owner of Color Pro, an auto body repair business in Timberstone Business Plaza, has been in the building for 10 years. He is searching for a new headquarters.

“I would like to stay in the Sylvania area. It’s an easy area,” he said. He likes the people and his trip from his Holland home is traffic free.

Timberstone Business Plaza is a one-story, 14,600-square foot building at 7510 to 7530 Sylvania Ave, and has six units for businesses. It is expected to be demolished next year and replaced with a 13,000-square foot CVS.

The Sylvania Planning Commission in October unanimously recommended site plans presented by Cleveland retail developer Zaremba Group, which is in the process of purchasing the site to develop it for CVS. The plans and a zoning change are scheduled for a public hearing at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 and council will act afterward. The zoning change requested is from heavy industrial to general business.

Hunt Sears, her real estate agent, said the property sale is expected to be finalized in February. Charlene and Nick Neisner own the property and put it up for sale in 2008 when the economy was down and they were unable to find tenants for two units.

The couple operates Nick Meisner Drywall in the plaza. Mrs. Meisner said they are waiting for the sale before searching for a new home for the business, but plan to stay in the Sylvania area.

Representatives for Power Door Systems, another tenant in the plaza, declined to comment. The business has relocated to 3407 Silica Drive.
