In less than two weeks, some Sylvania residents won’t have to travel far for a Paddy Jack's gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.

Managers of Paddy Jack’s, at 6725 W. Central Ave. in Sylvania Township, confirmed that the restaurant will open a second location in downtown Sylvania. The new restaurant will be at 5629 Main St., in the former space of Jenna’s Mediterranean Grill, which has been vacant since October.

The restaurant is scheduled to open April 1, said Jennifer Hurst, the general manager.

There had been unconfirmed reports that a Jed’s Barbeque and Brew would fill the Jenna's spot, but Paddy Jack’s has started construction work in the 5,100 square foot building. Bill Sanford, city director of economic development, said  the restaurant applied for a sign permit in February.

Ms. Hurst, who spoke on behalf of the owner who wished to remain unnamed, said this opening is part of an expansion plan to franchise the restaurant in the northwest Ohio region and Michigan. A third location will open in the former spot of Firehouse 47 Bar and Grill in Ottawa Lake, Mich.

“Paddy Jack’s is looking to add 10 locations to the franchise by the end of the year,” Ms. Hurst said.

The first Paddy Jack’s opened on Central Avenue last year. The eatery is known for its beer selection and sandwiches. It has 40 of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu.

The new location will seat about 70 patrons.

Ms. Hurst, who has worked for the restaurant since it opened locally,  will manage the downtown Sylvania restaurant. She is training employees for the new location, and is seeking additional staff.
