Lourdes University announced Tuesday it will house the archives of theologian the Rev. Jim Bacik’s complete works at its library.

Father Bacik also will join the faculty this fall semester, teaching an introductory theology course, part of the university’s graduate theological studies program.

Father Bacik, 77, was pastor at Corpus Christi University Parish in Toledo for 20 years. He is known for engaging sermons in which translated scripture into relateable language that parishioners could apply to their everyday lives.

He received a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Oxford, England in 1978. He has taught at area universities, including the University of Toledo, as well as Fordham University in New York and the University of San Francisco. Since he retired in 2012 he has lectured at the Franciscan Center and Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse grounds.

Father Bacik’s collection of notes, books, lectures, sermons, and more will be archived in a separate room at Lourdes’ Duns Scotus Library. Some of his works will also be accessible on the internet, Mrs. Arquette said. The archives will be open to the public and acade-mia.

Lourdes will host an event at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 to commemorate the Reverend James Bacik Literary Archives. The day will begin with a liturgy at the chapel followed by a lecture by Father Bacik and a blessing of the archives.

Before the archives officially open Lourdes is raising $500,000 to establish Father James Bacik Endowed Chair in Theological Studies.
