Sister Joy Barker was honored by the Franciscan Federation for her work and support of the Sisters of St. Francis ministry in Haiti.

Sister Joy received the Franciscan Life in Evolution Award at the federation’s annual conference in Pittsburgh last month. The conference brings together congregation members in the United States who follow the Third Order Regular Rule of St. Francis of Assisi.

A member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Toledo since 1968, the Sylvania Franciscan nun’s work includes bringing a Haitian man to Toledo for heart surgery, organizing events to help victims of Haiti’s 2010 quake, and other works.
