Sylvania Schools Academic Hall of Fame to induct 4 alumni

The Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation will honor four distinguished alumni on Friday into the Academic Hall of Fame.

■ John MacDonald, Burnham High School, Class of 1948. Retired business and civic leader in the Toledo area

Mark Greenblatt Mark Greenblatt

■ Linda Gale Horist, Sylvania High School, Class of 1974. 2nd Grade teacher and California State Teacher of the Year

■ David Walker, Northview High School, Class of 1977. Financial advisor, partner in Hedge & Walker in the Toledo area

■ Mark Greenblatt, Southview High School, Class of 1991. Investment coach/advisor with RVR Wealth Advisors in the Toledo area

The group will be inducted into the Academic Excellence Foundation’s Distinguished Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. at the Sylvania Country Club.

The foundation also will recognize Lynn Nedrow, Sylvania Schools' 2013 Teacher of the Year, two student volunteers of the year, Sejal Shah and Logan Sander, and the 2014 Legacy Award Winner, WTVG-TV, Channel 13.

The foundation will announce the start of a new scholarship in memory of Marjorie Fitkin, who was a teacher at Sylvania Schools for more than 40 years. Before she died last year she established  a bequest to help emerging educators follow their dream of teaching.

Beginning next year, the foundation will oversee a scholarship program for seniors graduating from Northview or Southview High School entering career field of education.
