Lourdes Fall Music Showcase has 3 mini-concerts Oct. 13

Lourdes University Department of Music will present its Fall Music Showcase at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 in the Franciscan Center.

Faculty, students, choirs, string quartet, oboe, and a guest presenter will perform three mini-concerts of 45 minutes each, with a snack buffet in between performances.

The event at the Sylvania college is free and open to the public.

This year’s theme “Let Music Enrich Your Life” will feature:

Choral Opening: Songs of Faith and Travel: 3 p.m.

Lourdes University Choirs, Karen T. Biscay, director and Olga Topuzova-Meade, accompanist, will be joined by Strings of Choice to present music by John Rutter, Ola Gjeilo, Saint-Saens, Vaughan-Williams, and others that describes faith and travel from day trips to life journeys. Original photos by award-winning Sylvania photographer, Jim Hagan, will enhance the singing.

Special Guest presentation, Paul L. Fine, MD: 4 p.m.

Paul L. Fine, MD, Sylvania native, Northview High School graduate, associate professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame 2012 honoree, composer and pianist, will present “Let Music Enrich Your Life,” and discuss music as an avocation, outline the beneficial effects of active musical participation, and perform some of his original compositions.

Closing Concert: 5 p.m.

Lourdes Music faculty, students, and guests will present solo and chamber music for piano, voice, and classical guitar.

A reception follows at 6 p.m.
