Wind, low humidity create conditions for outdoor fires

BY MIKE FROELICH
SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT

The National Weather Service has issued an urgent fire weather message: A red flag warning is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. today for wind and low relative humidity for all of northwest Ohio.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will be occurring. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

Winds today are southwest 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Humidity is to be as low as 23 to 27 percent.

Impacts: Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
