7 Lourdes women volleyball players earn league honors


Lourdes University's women's volleyball team had seven individuals earn Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honors, including the first First Team All-WHAC selection in program history.

The league handed out the season-ending awards on Wednesday.

Keyonna Gregory (Holland/Springfield H.S.) was named First Team All-WHAC while Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) garnered Honorable Mention honors. Stef Comte (Toledo/Notre Dame H.S.) was voted to the league's All-Freshman Team.

In addition, Alyssa Pelish (Toledo/Central Catholic H.S.) was selected to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while Andrea Brown (Northwood/Northwood H.S.), Ali Mass (Walbridge/Tiffin Calvert H.S.), and Allegra Recknagel (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) represented Lourdes on the All-Academic Team.

Gregory leads Lourdes with a .282 hitting percentage through the regular season and ranks second on the squad with 212 kills this year. Her hitting percentage mark is on pace to set a new school single season record and her kills total currently is eighth on the single season list. In addition, the redshirt-junior middle blocker leads the team, and ranks second all-time on the single season charts, with 64 blocks this season. Gregory is the first Gray Wolf in program history to earn First Team All-WHAC accolades.

Jimenez is making her second straight Honorable Mention All-WHAC selection for the Gray Wolves. The sophomore libero has tallied 409 digs this season, a mark that currently ranks third on the school's single season chart. She is just 41 digs shy of the school record.

Comte leads the Gray Wolves with 33 service aces, a mark that is fifth on the all-time single season list. A freshman middle blocker, she has tallied 175 kills, a mark that is 10th in school history, while adding 57 blocks, the third most in a single season at Lourdes. Her .265 hitting percentage is on pace to rank second all-time for the Gray Wolves.

Pelish was selected to the Champions of Character Team for displaying the five core values of NAIA: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. A senior defensive specialist, she has registered 233 digs on the year.

Brown is a fifth-year senior social work major who carries a 3.54 cumulative grade point average. A middle blocker, her 44 rejections this season rank seventh on the single season charts. She is also hitting .206, a mark that currently ranks fifth on the single season charts.

Mass is the first four-year player in program history. A senior nursing major with a 3.486 grade point average, she has played in a school-record 104 career matches and 309 career sets. This season the outside hitter has tallied 86 kills and 107 digs.

Recknagel is a setter majoring in psychology. The senior carries a 3.847 cumulative grade point average in the classroom. On the court, her 620 assists this season ranks third on the school's single season list, and she is just 40 helpers shy of second place entering the WHAC tournament. She also has registered 196 digs this year.

Lourdes finished the regular season 18-11 overall and 5-6 in the WHAC, earning a tie for seventh place. The Gray Wolves have won the second most matches in program history, and will set a new school mark for winning percentage this year.
