Glass City Marathon course includes Olander Park
For the third year, Sylvania City and Sylvania Township will be included in the Medical Mutual Glass City Marathon’s course.
In its 37th year, the 26.2-mile marathon takes place on April 28. It is open for registration.
This year. the course runs through Olander Park and along Sylvania Avenue.
Participants will run past the statue of the late Sy Mah, a former professor of the University of Toledo and a distinguished distance runner.
“When he died in 1988, he held the Guinness World Record for the most marathon runs. So, there is a historical aspect as to why we run through Olander Park," said Clint McCormick, the event director.
Mr. McCormick said an expected 7,000 runners will participate from 40 states.
“We selected friendly roads for runners, safe smooth roads, and entertaining for runners to go through. The course highlights neighborhoods where people come out and show their support,” he said.
Besides the regular marathon, the event that day also has a 5K, a half marathon element (already sold out), and 5-person marathon relay. Children can participate in a wellness day on April 27 at which the University of Toledo Football team will encourage healthy activities.
