Northview hopes Science Olympiad takes note of its host

Falling bridges, flying planes, speeding cars, robotic arms picking up stuff. All this and more was in the game plan during Northview High School's first Science Olympiad Invitational today at the high school, 5403 Silica Dr.
At the event, students from Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania competed in various ways, such as performing experiments and building models that will be tested on-site.
Since October, members of Northview High School's Science Olympiad team have been practicing with Lego models, writing reports, and conducting chemistry experiments in preparation for the first Science Olympiad Invitational.
During a recent interview, Northview student team leader Veronica Czernik said she hopes the first year of the event at the school will let competing teams learn more about them. “It will get our name out there.”
The Northview team has been up and running at the school since 2007, said adviser and chemistry teacher Andy Roth who organized a team because a student approached him about bringing the event to the area. Since then, each team has been fairly successful at winning competitions. Last year, they placed seventh in the state.
