From room-to-room at Sylvania Schools'  Whiteford Elementary, a collection of donated items took place today to benefit Goodwill.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. Whiteford students held its second-annual collection day, and Goodwill went around the school, collecting the bags from each of the classrooms.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Goodwill will have a vehicle parked in front of the school for larger donations, such as computers, household materials, furniture, and clothing.

This is the second year that Whiteford Elementary has partnered with Goodwill for the annual school donation drive. Last year's donation drive resulted in the collection of nearly 3,000 pounds of material. This has proven to be an effective, hands-on way for children to learn that recycling goes beyond cans and newspaper, according to information provided by the school district.

The Whiteford classroom with the most number of bags collected will receive a pizza party on behalf of Goodwill. The school will receive a recognition plaque for helping people in need in the area community.

This program is presented in partnership with Goodwill and Whiteford PTO. To learn more about Goodwill's mission in the local community and the different ways to recycle unwanted items, visit goodwillnwohio.com.
