A mix of Sylvania residents and Sylvania Township firefighters watched the tear down of Fire Station No. 1 along Monroe Street today.

Four-year-old Davis Barror of Sylvania got an up-close view of the equipment used to take down the building at 11 a.m.

“I like seeing it, and they’re gonna build a new one,” he said. His grandparents, Sylvania residents Tom and Connie Jameson, had mixed emotions about clearing the old 1931 building that was constructed by a volunteer fire department.

“It’s kind of a sad day,” Mrs. Jameson said.

Although sad to see a piece of historical building disappear, they were excited for the new fire station that will be built in its place.

“It’s good to watch them finally get to a point and build a new one,” Mr. Jameson said.

Construction of the new Firehouse No. 1 will be completed by Nov. 1.
