Public hearing delayed on rezoning for 214-unit apartments on Central Ave.


The Sylvania Township public hearing to discuss a rezoning request for 214-unit housing development at 8739 W. Central Ave. has been postponed until further notice.

Township zoning manager Daryl Graus said the applicant, George Oravecz, principal of Oravecz and Associates in Toledo, has requested a delay for the hearing which had been scheduled for 4 p.m. today.

The hearing is to discuss rezoning the 40 acres of land from agricultural to residential multifamily. Mr. Graus said the applicant has not received a traffic report generated by the Ohio Department of Transportation for the proposed development.


Mr. Oravecz applied for the rezoning request on behalf of the developer Redwood Acquisitions of Cleveland.

The project is for 40 acres of former farmland on West Central Ave., between Centennial and Herr Roads, to be developed as one-story apartments, renting for about $1,300 a month. The development is to be called the Lakes at Central Reserve. The project, expected to cost $15 million to $20 million, is for residents age 55 and older and would be phased in.

Some township residents living near the property have objected to the development, citing traffic and flooding concerns. The Lucas County Plan Commission last month voted unanimously to approve the rezoning.

A new hearing date has not been scheduled.
