Arbor Way lots annexed to Sylvania from Sylvania Township

The City of Sylvania has annexed 7.7 acres of land on Arbor Way  from Sylvania Township.

The resident-initiated annexation was finalized with acceptance by Sylvania City Council Monday. The property includes 6.3 acres of homeowners' lots and the rest is the street, said Jim Moan, city law director.

He filed the property owners' petition with Lucas County in February.

The annexation request, signed by 21 homeowners, includes the homes between Whiteford Road and Silvertown Drive. It was approved by the Lucas County Commissioners in May, with no objection from the township.

Residents were prompted to incorporate with the city because they wanted to switch from a septic tank system to a sewer system.

Townships, under state law, do not provide sewage systems, said Kevin Aller, city service director.

Mr. Aller will prepare plans for the sewer project for the street and Lewandowski Engineers will provide survey services for about $4,240. The cost will be paid for by the Arbor Way homeowners, Mr. Aller said.

The project is expected to begin in the fall.
