Blossman Road residents in Sylvania Township had an exciting evening Thursday when a hot air balloon landed near the street.
“The people came out to watch and tried to help with the deflating of the balloon,” said Deborah Patton, a real estate agent for ReMax Masters in Perrysburg. The balloon was a mobile advertisement for ReMax.
Ms. Patton was one of the employees who followed two hot air balloons, sporting the red, white, and blue company logo and flew above Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo for the Mud Hens game.
The balloons were followed by the company's patrol crew, and when the wind died down, preparations were made for landing. At about 8:30 p.m., the crew alerted local authorities to clear the area for landing in a grassy area near Blossman Road in Sylvania Township, Ms. Patton said.
The Township Fire Department and police blocked off the road for a safe landing. With the road blocked, she said, the balloon was moved from its landing in a grassy area to the street to make it easier to roll up into an envelope.
She said that the pilot safely guided the hot air balloon and did not damage any power lines in the process. The second balloon landed safely in an open field elsewhere in the region, she said.
