It’s that time a year again for resident seniors to get a comprehensive check on their overall well-being.
The Sylvania Senior Center will host its 8th annual Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 4 for area residents aged 55 and older.
The free event will feature about 25 presenters from the Toledo area who will provide information on various aspects of health that promote wellness.
Sarah Reyes-Cairo, event coordinator at the Sylvania Senior Center, said the setting of the health fair in the center’s great room provides an atmosphere for individuals to get personal attention from each vendor.
“Sometimes you have to make an appointment to talk to a specialist about a concern. This gives them a great opportunity to meet and talk to the vendors, and ask questions regarding illness, surgery or a senior living frame of reference,” Mrs. Reyes-Cairo said.
Some vendors will present the newest technology in their fields and will use those instruments in on-the-spot-testing that includes balance tests, glucose sugar checks, and the latest protective eyewear for after-surgery recovery.
Relaxation techniques and practices will be discussed, such as the latest in massage therapy or taking time off for that special vacation. A travel agent will be on hand to inform residents on the benefits of traveling.
“When we talk about good health, taking a trip is a nice way to treat yourself,” Mrs. Reyes-Cairo said.
The Sylvania Senior Center Health Fair is offered twice a year, on the first Thursday in April and October. The center is located at 7140 Sylvania Ave., between McCord and King roads.
