Brush, branch pickup starts Sept. 10 in Sylvania Township; heavy-item pickup next month
Sticks and stones...okay, not stones, but definitely sticks can be put curbside during Sylvania Township’s fall cleaning sweep.
The township will conduct a once-only sweep to pick up brush, including sticks, branches, and tree limbs, from the yards of residents starting Sept. 10.
The collection could help out residents who still have branches in their yards from storms that occurred throughout the year.
Brush should be stacked and placed at the curb, not in the road. Placing items in the road could cause a traffic hazard, the township noted.
In a separate collection, the township will pick up residents’ unwanted heavy items, such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, and furniture, beginning Oct. 15.
Items for collection should be placed at the curb by Oct. 14 to ensure that they are picked up. There is no set schedule yet for the one-time sweep of the township, but if items are put out by that deadline, they will be collected, according to the township.
Empty containers, mattresses, box springs, books, carpeting, and other items are permitted as part of the collection.
The township will work with a hauling company to pick up the items. The company has not been selected yet; township administrator John Zeitler is in the process of soliciting proposals.
