The Spring Fling Senior Day at Sylvania's Tam-o-Shanter was full of surprises.
Jazz legend Jon Hendricks performed at the event, which was put on by the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio. Hendricks, who is 90 years old, is a Toledo resident. He is believed to be the oldest living active jazz performer.
Justin Moor, vice president of communications and operations for the Area Office on Aging, described the performer as “a very vibrant, very active individual,” proving that age is just a number.
Offerings at the four-hour event today also included information and giveaways from around 100 exhibitors, all with products and services regarding senior living.
Several demonstrations, on topics like wood carving, floral arranging, painting and fishing were also available to keep guests entertained.
Mr. Moor said the event was designed to appeal exclusively to the interests of the senior population.
The “two main purposes are to celebrate and honor older adults,” he said. “To help them live long, quality lives.”
Mr. Moor said the event is updated yearly, “based on feedback from last year's event.”
