Lourdes University will host this week a presentation and book-signing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, award-winning and bestselling author, poet, and teacher of writing.

The presentation is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Franciscan Center on campus. It is free and open to the public.

Her work has been published in over 50 magazines including the Atlantic Monthly and the New Yorker, and has been included in over 50 anthologies, such as The Best American Short Stories, the O. Henry Prize Stories and the Pushcart Prize Anthology, and has been translated in 29 languages.

Her presentation will focus on one of her latest novels, One Amazing Thing, which was the required summer reading assignment for Lourdes’ First Year Experience program.

One Amazing Thing tells the story of a diverse group of would-be travelers and visa office workers who become trapped together after an earthquake strikes. To bide their time and keep one another calm, Uma, an Indian-American girl disconcerted by her parent's decision to return to India after 20 years living in the United States asks the group to share one amazing thing they have witnessed throughout their lives. One by one, they share their story, baring their past, and finding the bonds of humanity.
