It's a busy summer weekend in Sylvania

This weekend in Sylvania includes a two-day pizza contest, a triathlon, and a rummage sale. 

Friday

Tim Oehlers, Toledo native and guitarist, presents a variety of acoustic songs for the latest Noon Tunes at Wildwood Preserve. Residents are invited to grab a lawn chair and some friends, and have lunch while listening to his original music. The free concert starts at noon, at the gazebo on the Manor House lawn, Wildwood Preserve Metropark, 5100 W. Central Ave. For more information visit www.metroparkstoledo.com.

The fourth annual Pizza Palooza event kicks off on Friday. Area pizza shops will be judged by a panel of local celebrities for Best Cheese and Best Specialty Pizza. The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District host the two-day event that also features activities for children. Patrons will also be able to taste-test a variety of pizza pies. Pizza Palooza runs from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Centennial Terrace, 5773 Centennial Rd. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 12, children under 5 are free. Pizza slices are additional. For more information visit www.sylvaniachamber.org.

Members of Olivet Church have been collecting home and clothing items for a Rummage Sale. Shoppers will be able to fill bags with clothes for $2. The Sale, started Thursday, runs on from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St. For more information visit www.olivetsylvania.org.

Saturday

Calling all dogs owners, the morning belongs to you and your best friend. Bring your pup for a leisurely hike along the Quarry Ridge Bike Trail. Dr. Bob Esplin of SylvaniaVet is joining the Doggie Play Date and Walk. Health tips, doggy snacks, and bagels will also be available. The play date starts at 10 a.m., Fossil Park, 5675 Centennial Rd. Sunday

Hundreds of female athletes will line up at Centennial Quarry for the annual Women’s Only Triathlon and Dri-Tri. Elite Endeavors hosts the sporting competition that begins with a swim in the quarry, bike, and run. The competition starts at 7:30 a.m., Centennial Terrace and Quarry, 5773 Centennial Rd.
