Nature programs, theater among Sylvania area weekend activities


A variety of events are planned for this weekend in Sylvania, including performances at Lourdes University and, at the Olander Park System, activities aimed at getting the family outside.

Here's what's going on this weekend:


The Olander Park System will host a Nurturing Nature program at 10:30 a.m. at the Gorman Nature Education Center, 6930 Sylvania Ave. The event is for 3 to 5-year-old children accompanied by adult guardians. The program includes learning activities that expand cognitive skills. For more information, email

Lourdes University's Drama Society will present Just Desserts which includes performances and a variety of dessert selections. The event runs Friday and Saturday, starting at 8 p.m. in the Ebeid Center, 6832 Convent Blvd. Cost is $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. The cost includes desserts and beverages. Visit for additional details.


Lourdes University will present another performance in its cabaret series. The performance, entitled Eternally Elvis, will star Caesare Belvano and will begin at 8 p.m. in the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd. Individual tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. A Family Nature Adventure, sponsored by the Olander Park System, will begin at 3 p.m. at the park, 6930 Sylvania Ave. The event will include a journey through one of the park system's natural areas, highlighted by tips and suggestions on how to explore the outdoors all around the city.
