Nature program, lectures among Sylvania area weekend activities

The weather for the second weekend in January looks perfect for getting outside and exploring Sylvania.

Here’s what’s going on this weekend:

FRIDAY

The Olander Park System will host a Nurturing Nature program at 10:30 a.m., at the Gorman Nature Education Center, 6930 Sylvania Ave. The event is for 3-5 year olds accompanied by adult guardians. The program includes learning activities that expand cognitive skills. For more information, email info@olanderpark.com.

Highland Meadows Golf Club will be the scene of a Women's Connection West luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The event, at Highland Meadows Golf Club, 7455 Erie St., costs $12 and includes a guest speaker, former pro baseball player Ron Rightenour. SUNDAY

Sundae on Sundays, a program billed by the Olander Park System as featuring local speakers delivering noteworthy topics while you savor a scrumptious surprise. At 3 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 10, Letters from the Land of Cotton will be presented by Eileen and Alana Eddy as part of their two-part series on two Civil War-era Southern women of different backgrounds. Program will be enhanced by photographs, artifacts, and period clothing. The Eddys research is from letters located at the Library of Congress and the Richmond Historical Society. The event takes place at the Nederhouser Community Hall, located at the park, 6930 Sylvania Ave., and also includes dessert.
