Athletic events highlight weekend of activities

There are several athletic events to watch and participate in during this first weekend of January in Sylvania.

Here's what's happening:

FRIDAY

To start off your New Year's resolutions right, the Sylvania Senior Center will offer a Tai Chi demonstration from 1:30-2:30 p.m. For more information about this event, call 419-537-0131. The center is located at 7140 Sylvania Ave.

For basketball fans, local boys' and girls' teams will be on the courts. At 7:30 p.m., Sylvania Southview Cougars will play against the Springfield Blue Devils in the boys' teams matchup. The school is located at 7225 Sylvania Ave. The Northview High School Wildcats boys' team and the Perrysburg High School Yellow Jackets boys' team will play at Northview, 5403 Silica Dr., at 7:30 p.m.

For the girls' teams, Southview plays at 4:45 p.m. in the junior varsity game against Springfield High School at Southview, and at 6:15 p.m. the varsity team will play against Springfield High School at Southview. For the Northview team, the game begins at 6:15 p.m. between Northview Lady Wildcats against Perrysburg at Northview.

SATURDAY

Sylvania Southview will host a gymnastics invitational at 6 p.m. at Sunrise Gym, located at 3640 Holland-Sylvania Rd. There is a nominal spectators' fee.
