Holiday lunch, dog walk, planetarium among local weekend events


Several events are in store for this weekend in Sylvania.

Here's what's happening:


The Women's Connection organization will host a holiday luncheon, entitled A Cup of Christmas, at Highland Meadows Golf Club, 7455 Erie St., from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The event will feature baked goods and a hot turkey buffet lunch. The Toledo-Lucas County Library kicked off its annual Holiday Concert Series this week, sharing holiday music and merriment. The concerts include the Sylvania Northview High School Jazz Band Friday. Performances will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Wintergarden at the Main Library. Admission is free. For more information, visit


Join the Olander Park System at Fossil Park, 5675 Centennial Rd., for a dog walk and play date, starting at 9 a.m. The event, which is co-sponsored by SylvaniaVet and the Olander Park System, includes a dog-friendly treat from Barry Bagels and exploration of the Quarry Ridge Bike Trail. All dogs must be on a leash for the event.

The Lourdes University Appold Planetarium will host Journey to Bethlehem, its newest holiday show, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The university is located at 6832 Convent Blvd. The show is a modern retelling of the Christmas story. For further details and tickets, visit


Sylvania Area Historical Society President Bob Smith will meet with residents at the Sylvania Historical Village, on Main Street, at 2 p.m., to revisit Sylvania's past. Mr. Smith will talk about the museum's current holiday theme, and guests will be offered old-time refreshments. The event is free.
