Theater, music, Santa highlight weekend events
It's going to be a busy weekend in Sylvania from a play and musical concert to breakfast with Santa and a holiday bake sale.
Here's what's going on:
FRIDAY
The Lourdes University Drama Society will present Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas, from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the university, 6832 Convent Blvd. This marks the society's fifth annual production of the drama. Performances also will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. All three performances will be staged in the Ebeid Student Center in McAlear Hall. For tickets, call 419-517-8881. SATURDAY
Start the day off with breakfast with Santa and a silent auction at Southview High School. The festivities begin at 9 a.m. at 7225 W. Sylvania Ave. Sponsored by the Southview Band Boosters, the breakfast will feature egg casserole, sausage, French toast, pancakes, bagels, fruit, juice, milk, and coffee. A silent auction will run until 11:30 a.m. Items up for grabs include sports memorabilia, gift certificates, and more. The high school's jazz band will play during the breakfast and the auction as well. Visit www.southviewband.com for details.
4 Paws Sake Inc., a local nonprofit dog rescue organization, will host a Pet Photos with Santa event from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, located at 6735 Sylvania Ave. The photos will be sold for $10 for a hard copy and frame, as well as an electronic version of the photo. During the photo shoots, a craft show and bake sale will also take place at the church. All proceeds from the event go toward 4 Paws Sake. SUNDAY
Olivet Lutheran Church will sponsor a Christmas handbell concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The church is located at 5840 Monroe St. in Sylvania. The concert is free and open to the public.
Olander Park is hosting a holiday celebration for families, entitled “Evergreens Come Alive,” in the Nederhouser Community Hall. There will be storytime, as well as opportunities to decorate a miniature family tree and have snacks. Participants are asked to bring winter socks for kids or adults, or a perishable food item for Sylvania Area Family Services, as admission. The event begins at 3 p.m. Olander Park is at 6930 Sylvania Ave.
