Music, magic, fire highlight Sylvania weekend activities

Here's what's going on in Sylvania this weekend:

FRIDAY

Lourdes University has the “Swingmania Big Band” concert at the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent. Blvd. in Sylvania, featuring a cabaret-style set up, compete with a cash bar, snacks, and a dance floor. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For tickets or more information, call 419-824-3999 or visit www.franciscancenter.org. The event begins at 8 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

The Sylvania branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will show its appreciation for its patrons by hosting a free celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Located at 6749 Monroe St. Activities will include a show by professional magician Andrew Martin from 3 to 4 p.m. Crafts, cupcakes and cider will also be offered, in addition to piano music by John Cleveland.

A Fire Safety Festival, in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, will be offered by the Sylvania Township Fire Department. Held at 8210 Sylvania Ave., the event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. will feature fire safety activities and a pizza lunch. Sylvania First United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Bazaar and Quilt Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event has been going on for about 50 years and will feature many craft vendors and artisans. For more information, visit www.sylvaniafirstbazaar.com. The church is located at 7000 Erie St.

SUNDAY

The annual fall music showcase takes place at Lourdes University and is centered around the concept of new beginnings. Starting at 3 p.m. in the Franciscan Center, the showcase will feature Lourdes faculty and students. Choirs will perform three mini-concerts and a snack buffet will be available for attendees. The university is located at 6832 Convent Blvd.
