Outer space traveling, a charity benefit are among Sylvania's weekend activities

From a walk to benefit Lou Gehrig's disease to a visit to another planet, the first weekend in October has plenty of outdoor events for residents.

Here's what is going on in Sylvania this weekend:

FRIDAY

A rummage sale, sponsored by First Christian Church of Sylvania will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday. The event will offer a wide variety of items for sale. The church is at 5271 W. Alexis Rd.

SATURDAY

Lourdes University’s Appold Planetarium is showing at 7 p.m. "Perfect Little Planet: Greetings Earthlings. We’re on Vacation!" Discover the solar system through a different set of eyes – a family from another star system seeking the perfect vacation spot, flying over Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars and more. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for children under 12. SUNDAY

The 9th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) will take place at 1 p.m. at Sylvania's Flower Hospital, at 5200 Harroun Rd. Families and friends of patients will walk two miles on the hospital campus, as part of the event. Other activities include clowns, face painting, and food. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. Wheelchairs, strollers, and dogs are welcome. For more information, contact event co-chair Ruth Moeller at rmoeller@buckeye-access.com.
