Lourdes presents Fall Music Showcase

LOURDES UNIVERSITY

The Lourdes University Department of Music on Oct. 14 will present its Fall Music Showcase in the Franciscan Center. Lourdes faculty, students and choirs will perform three mini-concerts of 45 minutes each with a continuous snack buffet for breaks in between performances.

This year’s theme, “Beginnings,” connects the varied aspects of beginnings to music: a first major solo or duet for a novice student, an artist’s first recording of major works, choral music that describes beginnings of the cosmos, the world, a day, a year, a love affair, or a new understanding of life.

Opening Concert: 3 p.m.

Lourdes music faculty, students and guests will present solo and chamber music for piano, voice, and classical guitar.

Olga Topuzova-Meade: 4 p.m.

Lourdes Piano Instructor and Choral Accompanist, Olga Topuzova-Meade, will present a solo program of music by Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, in preparation for recording her first solo CD. Topuzova-Meade has performed as soloist in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and her homeland Ukraine, in addition to giving numerous recitals in Northwest Ohio. She teaches piano in the Bowling Green State University Creative Arts Program and is organist-pianist at the First Methodist Church in Waterville.

Choral Finale: 5p.m.

The Lourdes University Chorus and Good Company Ensemble, Karen T. Biscay, Director, present a Choral Finale of beginnings, with choruses from Haydn’s The Creation, and music about beginnings from Eric William Barnam, Benjamin Britten, Joseph M. Martin, Rosephanye Powell, John Rutter, and others.

Free and open to the public. A reception follows at 6 p.m.
