Nearly 1,000 cyclists from around the region took part today in the Sylvania Cycling Classic.

Sponsored by Yark Subaru and the Maumee Valley Wheelman, it was held at the city’s Plummer Pool and Park, 6940 Maplewood Ave., in Sylvania.

The event is the host event for the USA Cycling categories 1-4 Men’s and Women’s Ohio State Criterium Championships and a points garnering event for the Michigan Bicycle Racing Assocation. A criterium, or crit, is a bike race held on a short course (usually less than 1 mile).

The event also had children’s non-sanctioned races and various family friendly activities, and the Plummer Pool was open for swimming.

The event was a MagneCote event with additional sponsorship from the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Kingston Healthcare Co., Regan Insurance, Perrysburg Eye Center, Valle Traditions, Jack’s Bicycles, Wells Fargo Advisors, Dave’s Running Shop, Mountain Man Sports, Bikeworks, the Bike Route, and Wersell’s Bike and Ski Shop.
