Jamie Farr golf tournament not only event slated for this weekend

This weekend Sylvania can shine in the national sports spotlight with the Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament going on at Highland Meadows Golf Club on Erie Road.

The Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, one of several activities scheduled this weekend in the area, runs Thursday through Sunday.

One event heading in to the weekend is Thursday’s “Taking it to the Streets” in downtown Sylvania. From 5 to 9 p.m., on Main Street between Maplewood and Monroe streets, will be entertainment, cars on display, children’s activities, refreshments and more. The outdoor event is sponsored by Mercy St. Anne Hospital.

Among a medley of other outdoor local events:

Friday

Pacesetter Park, 8801 Sylvania-Metamora Rd. in Sylvania Township, will host the Kelly Miller Circus, complete with clowns, elephants, aerial acts and more.

There are two shows, at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Sylvania Sunrise Lions Club Inc., tickets for the shows are available the day of the show, at the venue and today only at Sautter’s Market and Anderson’s Market in Sylvania.

Saturday

The 26th annual Sylvania SuperKids Triathlon, open to kids between 7 and 14, will begin at the Tam-O-Shanter Sports Complex, 7060 Sylvania Ave., at 7:30 a.m.

The event includes swimming, running and biking. There is also a “fun run” for children who are 3-6 years of age. The course will be monitored by the Team Toledo Triathlon Club.

Sunday

A triathlon for adults will also take place starting at Tam-O-Shanter at 7:30 a.m.

It is the 32nd year for the event, which includes a swim in Olander Lake, as well as a sprint or 40-kilometer bike ride, followed by a running race in the suburbs of Sylvania.
