Sylvania Recreation to honor Johnny Knorr

SYLVANIA RECREATION

The Sylvania Recreation District will honor Johnny Knorr, founder and leader of the popular Johnny Knorr Orchestra who passed away late last year.

A Memorial Plaque will be unveiled at Centennial Terrace on July 14 at 8 p.m. during a performance of the Johnny Knorr Orchestra that evening.

Mr. Knorr operated Centennial Terrace from 1979 to 1993. When Centennial Terrace’s fate was in question and its future in jeopardy, he formed “The Friends of Centennial.”

Under his direction and guidance, Centennial Terrace remained open and was preserved until the famed venue was purchased by the Sylvania Recreation District.

Johnny revived the tradition of big name bands performing at Centennial and is credited by many with keeping “Dancing Under the Stars” alive and well at historic Centennial Terrace.
