Medical center sued over man’s termination

A board-certified neonatologist who was fired from Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center filed suit Wednesday against Mercy Health Partners, alleging he was dismissed because of his Syrian origin, his gender, and his age.

In a complaint filed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, Dr. Moustafa Aouthmany, 62, of Sylvania alleges he complained about patients being “dumped” from St. Vincent’s-Mercy Children’s Hospital to the University of Michigan Children’s Hospital in violation of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act and was terminated Dec. 31, 2012, in violation of the Ohio Whistleblower Statute.
