Lucas County approves $100,000 for EOPA

Lucas County commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved $100,000 for the Economic Opportunity Planning Association of Greater Toledo to assist with operations.

The agency is in transition. The anti-poverty agency on Monday selected Stanley Lowe of Pittsburgh as new chief executive officer, and he will try to rebuild an organization that recently lost its largest source of funds after the federal government took away the agency’s Head Start grant.

The funds come soon after EOPA finalized an agreement for $100,000 from the city of Toledo’s Department of Neighborhoods to pay for Mr. Lowe’s position. Money for that grant, which EOPA leaders signed Monday, would come from federal Community Development Block Grant funding.
