2 more IHOP employees guilty of identity theft

Two more employees of area International House of Pancakes restaurants entered guilty pleas Tuesday in U.S. District Court to charges relating to the employment of undocumented workers.

Mark A. Turner, 48, of Toledo pleaded guilty to identity theft and making false statements, while Donna J. Harriott, 50, of Elida, Ohio pleaded guilty to alien harboring, identity theft, and making false statements. Turner worked as a manager at the Talmadge Road IHOP, while Harriott was a manager at the Findlay location.

Federal prosecutors said both used the Social Security number and date of birth of another individual to help an employee evade detection as an illegal immigrant. When questioned by FBI agents, each lied about their knowledge of the scheme.

Turner and Harriott were among 18 people indicted last year on charges related to IHOP restaurants operated by Tarek Elkafrawi of Wood County’s Middleton Township.
